This blog was inspired by the fact that I know so many people who have informed me that they do not allow their children to watch the Harry Potter movies or read the books...and every time I've been told this I ask, "Have you seen any of the movies?"


Now, you'd think everyone who has formed such a strong opinion would say, "Yes" and then proceed to explain to me "why."
But...no one ever has...


Isn't that...odd?


The most common response is, "My church is against it," or sometimes it's the less specific, "I've heard that it's bad..."


One person told me they had "researched it online"...which when I asked it meant they had read a few blogs (people's opinions) against it...and those blogs said that they were bad... 


People seem to like bandwagons. My theory is that it's because most people are not raised to be allowed to "question" (aka think of themselves). Most people are raised to be "obedient" and not question their parents. So, they grow up and are primed to just believe what people they respect tell them without question.


Personally I do not like to be on a bandwagon, and I try to jump off as soon as I realize I'm on one. When I realize that my opinion is based on other people's opinions...I try to remedy that. And, I have to admit that I was one of those people who was against the Harry Potter thing solely because of things I'd "heard"...nothing even "concrete" just the fact that people frowned on it I was against it.


The real...final straw for me, you could say, was someone who told me that they heard that "there was a church destroyed by a group of teens using the spells from Harry Potter."My memory was fuzzy but I had seen a few of the movies over the years and for the life of me I could not think of how the spells from the movie could do anything. I asked this person if they knew anything about the spells in the movie and they didn't.


SO! I finally thought, "Well, I'm just going to sit thru all the movies...take notes...and see for myself"


And, that's what I did.


And, since this is "me" and I like sharing...I put the information I gathered out here in public for others to see.


So, I sat thru each of the 7 movies one week on DVD with a notebook and remote in hand. I took notes on the "plot" (the content of the movie) and I noted all of the spells (at the end of each movie's notes). I've also attempted to define the words (as they all look kinda' Latin).


(I finished off that week at the movie theater watching the final movie...but I didn't take a notebook there)


This blog is therefore simply all my notes that I scribbled while watching and then typed into "Word". (Fortunately I am a lightning-speed typer!) 


Now, they are copied/pasted here for you to read. So, if they are sloppy or incomplete...well...OK...not "if"...they are sloppy and incomplete ;) but...in my defense I was taking these notes while the movie was running so...this is what it is!!


So, if you want to have an opinion and you also want to skip watching a movie and just look on a blog to see what YOU think about Harry Potter...here are my notes with as little of my own "opinion" for you to be influenced by as possible...so that your OWN brain can do the work rather than some blogger...This blog is a "summary" of each movie for you.


And, you can then see the spells for yourself and see what they actually are...and you can decide what you think... 


(Oh, and I'm not done with the spells and definitions...I just wanted to move my notes off of my computer onto here to get me rolling...in case some search phrase lands ya here before I'm ready...)
