MOVIE #7: The Deathly Hallows pt.1

Stuff that happens in the movie:

- Hermione is at her home. Both of her parents are muggles.

- The Dursley’s (Harry’s aunt, uncle, and cousin) are packing up and leaving. They say the house is not safe anymore.

- Harry is about to turn 17. There was a spell of protection on the house until Harry was 17.

- Hermione uses “obliviate” on her parents with tears. She disappears from their memories and we see Hermione disappear from all the photos in the house.

- Snape arrives at the Malfoy’s home. Walks right thru a gate. There is a meeting there. Discussing where Harry will be moved to and when.

- Bellatrix eagerly offers to kill Harry. Voldemort says he appreciates her bloodthirst but that he personally has to kill Harry.

- Voldemort explains that his and Harry’s wands share the same core…they were both made from the same feather of a phoenix. Their wands are twins. Therefore they cannot kill each other. So, he asks for someone else to offer their wand. He takes Lucius’ wand and tries it out. Lucius looks sick and looks afraid.

- Harry’s house is empty now. The mean fam is gone. A buncha’ people show up and are prepared to move Harry to the safehouse. They will do so by a handful of them becoming “Harry” via polyjuice potion. Their transformations are funny. Plan is for one escort and one “Harry” to all go different directions.

- Hagrid takes the “real Harry”. Immediately the deatheaters show up. Harry’s owl, Hedwig, follows Harry which gives the “real Harry” away. Hedwig gets killed. They were betrayed by someone.

- Voldemort actually shows up with Lucius’ wand and tries to kill Harry but Harry is able to fight him off.

- All show up at Ron’s which has a special spell of protection on it. People are hurt. Mad-Eye Moody…is dead.

- Harry feels overwhelmed with this and tries to leave in the middle of the night. Ron catches him. Harry says, “No one else is going to die for me”. Ron tells him “this is a whole lot bigger than that”. Harry stays.

- Minister of Magic shows up at Ron’s. Has things from Dumbledore’s will for Harry, Ron & Hermione.

For Ron…a device of Dumbledore’s own invention called a “deluminator”. It grabs light from its surroundings to be able to shine in the dark later. Said for Ron that it will give him light when things seem most dark.

For Hermione…a children’s book. Said for her to find entertaining and instructive.

For Harry…the snitch from his 1st quidditch match. Said for him for a reminder of perseverance and skill. Also, he’s left the “Sword of Griffyndor”. The minister says that it is not his to give. And, it happens to be missing.

- Ron’s older brother’s wedding to Fleur (the girl who failed to retrieve her younger sister from the lake in the movie, “The Goblet of Fire”) is to happen now.

- They meet Luna Lovegood’s father, equally odd, Xenophilious Lovegood. (Xeno means stranger or alien…and philious is like the love of)

- Rita Skeeter (unscrupulous reporter) wrote book about Dumbledore. Said to have gotten info from “Bathilda Bagshaw” from Godric’s Hollow. (Where Harry was born and where his parents died)

- In the middle of the wedding celebration the protection is lifted. The Minister of Magic is dead. The Ministry has fallen. The deatheaters show up and trash the party. Everyone flees.

- Harry, Ron & Hermione disapparate and go to a cafĂ© in the muggle world somewhere. One of them make the mistake of saying the word, “Voldemort”. Saying the name is a “homing device” for the deatheaters. Two deatheaters show up. Battle ensues. They “petrify” them and “obliviate” their memories of them.

- Harry’s birthday is “today” when they’re on the run.

- They go to Sirius Black’s house. The face of Dumbledore greets them in dust at the door.

- Harry sees the man who had the wand shop, Ollivander, in a dream. He’s being interrogated by Voldemort. Voldemort wants to know why the other wand can’t kill Harry either.

- Kids go into Sirius Black’s room in the house. See something of Regulus Arcturus Black’s. He’s Sirius’ brother. He is the one who left the note inside the locket (necklace) in the last movie saying that he had the real horcrux and would destroy it.

- They find Kreacher the house elf. He tells them someone came in and stole all kindsa’ stuff from the house including that. Kreacher, tho’ unpleasant, must serve Harry because Sirius left the house to him. Harry is now the master of the house so Kreacher has to obey him.

- Neville is on the train to the school. Stands up to the death eater, “Hey losers he isn’t here.” (Neville was very timid in the 1st movie)

- New Minister of Magic takes over. Everything is dark and evil now.

- Hermione teaches Ron a little piano.

- Kreacher goes out and returns with Mundungus Flecher, the thief. He’d sold the necklace to the new Minister of Magic, the pink lady from the last movie, Ms. Umbridge.

- Harry, Ron and Hermione knock out 3 people and use polyjuice to look like them in order to get into the ministry to find the locket. They go into the bathroom and “flush” themselves in.

- Once in Ministry they see a new statue there of muggles being crushed.

- (Whole “anti-muggle” thing has a “Nazi” air to it.)

- The three as three other people are in an elevator not knowing exactly where to go. Someone who recognizes the person Ron is disguised as tells him something and so he goes “that way”.

- Ms. Umbridge enters elevator. Asks man Harry is disguised as if this is not “his floor” so he gets off. He is working in a room where they are printing books about “Mudbloods and the Threat and Danger they Pose”. He drops a couple little black things that George and Fred must have had in their store and they make noise and smoke. The distraction allows Harry to get into Ms. Umbridge’s office.

- Ms. Umbridge has Mad-Eye Moody’s “eye” in her door.

- Harry looks thru the office and finds folders with pictures of people and their faces “X”ed out. Hermione is one of them.

- Harry returns to elevator. Ron gets on and forgets who Harry is disguised as. Ron is all wet. It was raining in the room he was in.

- They go down in elevator to where they are interrogating the woman who is the wife of the man Ron is disguised as. Ms. Umbridge is doing the interrogating. Harry finally pipes up with what Ms. Umbridge made him write in his hand in the other movie, “You’re lying Dolores, and one mustn’t tell lies!”

- The three disarm Ms. Umbridge with “Stupefy” and Hermione gets the necklace. They flee. Immediately dementors come. Harry uses “Expecto patronum” to send them away.

- As they are running Ron does something that sends papers flying wildly.

- They head to the exit and one of those in pursuit tags along so Hermione makes the decision to tell the “exit” to take them somewhere else so that their safehouse is not detected. In changing the destination somehow this hurts Ron. When they “land” in the woods Ron is in intense pain. He’s been “splinched”. Hermione helps him with something from her bottomless purse.

- They attempt to destroy the necklace (horcrux) but can’t.

- Harry dreams of another wand maker, Gegorvitch, being interrogated and killed by Voldemort.

- Ron keeps listening to the radio to hear if his family is safe. Harry is being very irritated by it.

- Harry is watching the map of Hogwarts.

- Hermione takes a walk out in the woods and is not seen by passerby’s called, “Snatchers” because of the enchantments of protection she’s put on their camp area, but, they can smell her.

- Ron sees Harry and Hermione coming back from this walk and is mad.

- Hermione figures out that the sword of Griffyndor can destroy horcruxes because it was made by goblins.

- Ron is nasty and mean because he’s been wearing the necklace all day. Ron stalks off.

- Harry and Hermione leave a sign of their whereabouts for Ron and apparate without him. Hermione is very sad. They dance to a song on the radio to try to cheer up.

- Harry has the snitch. It says, “I open at the close”. Figures out how to open it.

- Hermione finds recurring symbol in the children’s book.

- They return to “Godric Hollow” where Harry was born and his parents died.

- They see the graveyard. Harry asks, “Do you think they’d be in here?” Hermione thinks so. Harry finds their grave.

- A creepy old lady is watching them. They follow her. She doesn’t talk. Her name is Bathilda. There are candles everywhere. She then speaks “Parsletongue”. Hermione sees flies. Finally, we see that the lady is deceased and a large snake is in her body animating her. Snake attacks them. They apparate and escape.

- Hermione has broken Harry’s wand.

- They are in a cold forest. Talk of the past. Hermione is sad her parents no longer know who she is.

- In the middle of the night a female deer patronum appears and Harry follows it. It leads him to a frozen pond and illumens the hiding place of the sword of Griffyndor at the bottom. Harry goes in but doesn’t think to take off the horcrux first and it freaks out when he gets close to it. We see a man above the ice enter the water and pull Harry out. It is Ron.

- Harry speaks parsletongue to the necklace (locket) to get it to open. Tells Ron to destroy it. When he opens it immediately Voldemort attacks Ron’s mind. “I’ve seen your heart and your dreams and fears. You’re the least loved of your brothers…” and shows Ron an image of Harry and Hermione naked from the waist up kissing and saying mean things to Ron. Harry is yelling to Ron, “It’s lying! Destroy it!” Finally, Ron whacks it with the sword and it’s done. Then says, “Just think only three to go.”

- Show up at camp and Hermione is mad at Ron. He explains how he found them. He says he was at a pub alone and heard Hermione’s voice like a whisper say “Ron” and then a tiny ball of light appeared and went right through his chest toward his heart. He knew that it would take him right to Hermione so he immediately disapparated.

- Ron has extra wand he took from some snatchers. Harry can use it.

- Because of the recurring symbol Hermione wants to go see Xenophilius Lovegood because he had a necklace of it.

- Xenophilius tells them that the symbol is the sign of the “deathly hallows”. Tells the tale of three brothers…who were travelling. They reached a river they couldn’t pass. They waved a wand and made a bridge. A hooded figure appeared. It was death. He felt cheated. But, he congratulated them for evading him. He offered them 3 prizes. He gave one the most powerful wand ever made, “the elder wand”. To one he gave the power to recall loved ones from the grave… “the resurrection stone” and to the third he gave something to be bable to be invisible to death, “the cloak of invisibility”. The first brother was quite proud but that first night an enemy killed him and took his wand. The second brother brought his wife back from the dead but she was all weird and so he killed himself. In those two things death won those men as he’d thought he was supposed to. But the third eluded him his whole life…and when he was very old he passed the cloak on to his son and greeted death as an old friend. Together, the three make one “master over death”.

- Xenophilius then admits that Luna’s been taken by the ministry. He is acting really weird. He won’t let them leave. He says, “you’re my only hope to get her back”. He says the word, “Voldemort” and immediately the deatheaters come. The three disapparated and got away. BUT…

- They ended up right there with some snatchers. They tried running but it didn’t work. Hermione does a spell on Harry’s face to disfigure it to make him unrecognizable.

- The snatchers take them to the Malfoy residence and to Bellatrix. She asks Draco to identify Harry but he says he can’t tell.

- Bellatrix sees the sword of Griffyndor was in Hermione’s possessio somehow and wonders how they got it. What else is missing from her vault? She sends Harry and Ron to the basement and tortures Hermione with “crucio”.

- Harry has this mirror shard he keeps seeing an old man in. He asks it for help. Dobby shows up and sets them free.

- They get back upstairs and “Mudblood” is written in Hermione’s arm in blood.

- Ron and Harry get into battle. Bellatrix has a knife to Hermione’s neck. Dobby releases a chandelier and they escape. As they are apparating Bellatrix throws the knife into them.

- When they all arrive on the beach Dobby is hurt and dies. As he is dying he says, “Such a nice place to be with friends. Dobby is happy to be with his friend Harry Potter”. He dies in Harry’s arms.

- Voldemort goes to Dumbledore’s grave and takes the elder wand from him.
